FAQs
- Not at all! The tongue drum is one of the most accessible instruments for beginners. It is tuned to a specific scale (like C Major / D Major / D Minor), meaning every note you hit will harmonize perfectly with the others. There are no "wrong" notes—only pure, intuitive creation.
- Generally, more notes (11-15 notes) allow you to play a wider variety of sheet music. A larger drum (12-14 inches) typically offers a deeper bass and richer resonance compared to mini 6-inch drums. For a full "BeatRise" experience, we recommend a 14 inch 15 notes drum for the best balance of sound quality.
- It’s all about preference! Playing with mallets produces a louder, clearer, and more resonant tone, which is great for meditation. Playing with hands/fingers offers more control and a softer, warmer sound, though it requires a bit more practice to master the "flick" technique.
- Steel Tongue Drum is generally more compact, affordable, and produces a more ethereal bell-like sound with longer sustain. Handpans are much larger, hand-hammered, and have a shorter, more percussive tone, and it requires a higher level of playing technique. For those starting their sound healing journey, the tongue drum is often the perfect entry point.
- Most of our drums are treated to resist corrosion. However, to keep it pristine, we recommend wiping the surface with a soft, dry cloth after playing to remove sweat or finger oils. A light coating of mineral oil once a month will keep the finish looking new and the sound vibrant.
